KSBW Weather Plus

SALINAS, Calif. -- Imagine turning on the television at any time -- day or night -- and immediately getting the local weather report, including the 5-day forecast, all at a glance.

That's what KSBW, NBC and its affiliates across the country have teamed up to create -- a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, all-weather channel.

"Weather Plus is a first of a kind venture where a local TV station is able to offer local weather 24/7. We're able to do what we do on KSBW but now be able to give it to viewers anytime. They just turn on the TV and it's there," KSBW President & General Manager Joseph Heston said.

Whether it's severe weather across the country or here on the Central Coast, the Weather Plus team of meteorologists will provide you with current conditions and forecasts when you want them.

And it's all inside what we call "The L-Bar."

Down the side are current conditions from our weather reporting stations around California. Across the bottom of the screen, your 5-day forecasts.

"You'll be familiar with the satellite images, the radar images you'll have your today, tonight and tomorrow forecasts, we'll have the detailed 5-day forecasts on it. We'll also be using the Futurecast and Microcast, which will be updated a number of times throughout the day," KSBW morning weather anchor Lee Solomon said.

Where can you find Weather Plus on your television?

There are two places: If you have a digital television, you can access KSBW Weather Plus on digital channel 8-2. If you're a Comcast digital cable customer, it's on digital cable channel 186.

"It really gives us the ability to let the viewers get that information and they don't have to wait until 'Weather On The 8s' to get the forecast," Heston said.

To emphasize, this is only available over the air if you have a digital TV receiver or if you have Comcast digital cable. It is not yet available on home satellite or if you're on another cable provider.
